    AEROSOL COLLECTOR (DTBD124)

    AEROSOL COLLECTOR
    Print-Ready Version

Introducing the new revolutionary Airborne Sample Analysis System (ASAS System) Biological Aerosol Sampler—the most effective means of collecting particles in outdoor or indoor environments for determination of airborne biological threats such as anthrax and smallpox, the ASAS offers rapid, high-confidence detection of bioterrorism.

o The ASAS System is designed for rapid, cost-effective deployments at outdoor or indoor air monitoring sites with minimal training and maintenance costs.

o Airborne particles are often small enough that they are invisible to the naked eye and the tiniest particulates have unique pulmonary dynamics. The ASAS system is a highly capable sampler that collects air-dispersed particles in the 1 to 10 micron size range in indoor or outdoor environments.

o Real-Time networking capabilities make it an easy system to deploy in the field

The ASAS Biological Aerosol Sampler builds upon the experience gained by providing the samplers used to monitor biological aerosols during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games.

Active particles have become an important topic, both domestically and internationally, with the advent and persistence of communicable infections and diseases transmitted through air such as SARS and bird flu as well as the threat of biological aerosols that pose a major concern for Homeland Security authorities.

ASAS Biological Aerosol Sampler - Better Innovation for better results.

o A patented technology incorporated in the ASAS System collects particles by accelerating and then impacting them onto the surface of advanced substrates. The approach has very small power and space requirements, a very large loading capacity, and is very effective at collecting particles 1 micron or larger in diameter.

o An industry first, the iBASS® sample cartridges used in the system incorporate radio frequency identification (RFID) technology that automatically records chain of custody information such as the sampler location and serial number, time stamps, and the identity codes of the individuals who installed and retrieved the cartridge.

o The system automatically stops sample collection when the door is unlocked and automatically returns the collection cartridge to its closed position. The basic user interaction with the ASAS System consists of unlocking and opening the door of the upper enclosure, exchanging the iBASS cartridge, and then closing and locking the door.

o The iBASS collection cartridge provides time resolved sampling of airborne particles on up to eight individual substrates

o The system's collection substrates are compatible with PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and conventional laboratory analyses.

o An Ethernet port provides the ability to retrieve data and control the system remotely and in real time through a hardwired or wireless network.

o Optional ports and sensors provide enhanced capabilities. With the addition of a wind sensor feature, the ASAS system can measure and transmit wind speed and direction data in addition to sample temperature monitored by all units. A global positioning system (GPS) option allows the unit to report its location when used in mobile applications.

The Sample Inlet System has the following Features:

o An omnidirectional sample inlet allows particle collection to take place independent of wind direction, and is located above the sampler enclosure to avoid interference from the base.

o The standard sample line can be extended using rigid or flexible tubing to meet special installation requirements

o Sound baffling in the sample line allows the system to be used in quiet indoor environments
