The specifications that follow define the structure and the ballistic requirements. Structure The shield is made of composite materials that withstand ammunition and fragmentation. There is a ballistic “peephole” which gives the user a wide-angle forward view. The window, including its connection to the shield itself, does not reduce in any way the ballistic performance of the shield and is constructed in such a way that does not cause any delaminating of the layers. The face of the shield is smooth - without holes, cracks or signs of uneven pressing. Shape All sides are curved and are of an equal thickness. A deviation of + .06” (1.5 mm) in thickness is tolerated. Peephole The peephole and its frame are made in such a way that there are no sharp edges that might harm the user. Size of the peephole: 4” x 18” (10.2 cm x 45.72 cm) + .2” (5 mm). A ballistic visor protects the peephole and is attached to the shield by a plastic frame and screws. Handles There are two handles in the back of the shield. One “U”-shaped and the other is “L”-shaped. The handles are made an aluminum tube that is .63” (16 mm) in diameter. The two handles are lined with padding for comfort during use. The ends of the tube are flattened and closed. Finish The shield is painted with polyurethane black color. Sizes • The shield is 20” x 34” (50cm x 86cm) Tolerance of .2” (5 mm) + 5 mm. Edges of the shield are curved. • Size of the ballistic visor is 4” X 18” (10.2 cm x 45.72 cm), tolerance of .2” (5 mm). Weight Maximum weight per square meter is 19.8 lbs. (9 Kg). The shield weighs no more than 25.4 lbs. (11.5 Kg). Ballistic protection • Level IIIA in accordance to NIJ 010801 STD. • The ballistic test will be performed with the following ammunition: o 0.44 LEAD SWC GC 240 Gr. Velocity of 426: 442 M/sec o 9 MM FMJ 124 Gr. Velocity of 442: 426 M/sec
