It was designed as a chute with built-in electronics&mdashit's very easy to operate. Mail slides down the chute and can be separated as suspicious or unsuspicious, according to the alarms. The device detects all kind of metal and alloys, and even very small components of improvised bombs or incendiary devices. Audible and visual alarm signals are both provided and the audio alarm can be muted. The device can operate in two modes: static or dynamic. In static mode, the alarm depends of an adjustable trigger threshold and is manually reset. In dynamic mode, the alarm signal depends completely on the target's characteristics. This allows the cross-checking and determination of the target's size and position, when a letter was separated due to an alarm. The sensitivity is very high. It can be adjusted according to the required value and it is possible to suppress the indication of staples, paper clips or unwanted metal objects. A very large number of letters or small parcels can be processed in short time. Letters and parcels which have to be checked by X-ray equipment will be reduced to a small number.
