It is a powerful tool for: Detection of contraband hidden in cavities Detection of illicit transports of nuclear material Measurement of local gamma dose rate and dose Cavities filled with cigarettes, drugs, explosives and other organic compounds containing a high amount of light elements like hydrogen, carbon and other elements with low atomic mass can be positively detected. Penetrating gamma radiation is used to look through covers of steel, aluminum, ... Specially light elements will backscatter a considerable amount of radiation to the detector -- this is used as indicator. FH 40 D can't tell you what it is, but it will indicate that there is something which shouldn't be there. Likewise nuclear material can be detected in places where no radiation is expected to be, by searching with the gamma detector alone - a highly sensitive NaI-scintillation detector. This detector is 150 times more sensitive than a good 'standard' gamma survey meter. The FH 40 D set consists of: FH 40 G-L Advanced Survey Meter FHZ 512 highly sensitive scintillation detector for gamma radiation Adapter with 200 kBq Ba-133 source for investigation of objects Optionally available are: telescopes for the detector for extension of the physical range neutron detectors for detection of fissile nuclear material alpha-beta contamination probes
