It is designed to be operated whilst being held one-handed. It is used to monitor the contamination of personnel or equipment in the field and within collective protection facilities. Other applications of the detector include anti-terrorism and counter-proliferation measures as well as real time monitoring of toxic and hazardous industrial chemicals in the environment. The RAID-M is an ergonomically designed detection instrument that is sufficiently light and well balanced to fulfil all its roles whilst being held one handed. It has no protruding parts which can be easily damaged and is compatible with other pieces of equipment worn by the first responder. Detection The RAID-M is able to detect, classify, quantify, and continuously monitor concentration levels of the chemical warfare agents specified. The identity of substances detected is either indicated by class - "G" or "H", or the specific agent or simulate identity is displayed. Hazard levels are indicated by an incremental hazard level display with five or eight increments. Moreover the RAID-M sends out an audible alarm when identifying any hazardous agent. The RAID-M provides very low detection limits and short response times. Due to the state of the art measuring cell and highly sophisticated software nerve agents can be detected at miosis level. Short recovery times are achieved by an automatic purge mode. The RAID-M is portable with a carrying sling. Likewise it can be installed on a vehicle mounting. In addition to use out in the field the equipment is capable of operation within collective protection facilities.
